We have two exciting things lined up for you this week – one is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, and the other a FUN-raiser in coordination with Madison County Rural Health Council! That’s not to say that the fundraiser isn’t also fun, because the event definitely puts the “fun” in “fundraiser.” I was just looking to transition between two unrelated events somehow, and puns are, for lack of a better term, a lot of fun. At least for me.
Anyway, mark your calendars and save room for dessert on Wednesday, October 7th from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. then make your way to Gilligan’s on 64 North Main Street in Sherburne and get something to eat! Twenty percent of the proceeds during those four hours will benefit the Friends of the Hamilton Public Library. Thanks to Gilligan’s for working with our Friends, who will be missing out on their Election Day bake sale this year in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Our Friends organization is a volunteer group that directly supports library services, and are responsible for things like: prizes during our Summer Reading Program, purchasing local museum passes for patrons to check out, and renovating library spaces. Basically, we (the library) operate on a very fixed budget, and the Friends help us provide services and materials that fall outside that budget. If you can’t make it to Gilligan’s to help support them, you can always make a donation to the Friends of the Hamilton Public Library by sending them a check to the library at any time. Heck, you can even drop off cash to the library and we’ll make sure it gets to the Friends!
Next up, there will be a Storybook Walk on Saturday, October 3 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. around the Hamilton Monday Mile route, which starts off directly in front of the library. Thank you so much to Stephanie Henry of the Madison County Rural Health Council for bringing this event to us, and for the Cazenovia Public Library for providing the book pages, making this event possible. For more information on this, please see the other blog that we published today!
Thank you for reading, and keep that face covering above your nose!
