As you may have anticipated, this year’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) is going to be unlike any other. I feel like I usually start out with that sentiment to talk about our annual SRP and all the great programs we have lined up, but this year, as mentioned previously, it’s different.
Of course that has everything to do with Covid-19 and the restrictions and guidelines set in place by local, state and federal governments and not normal excitement, but I digress. Enough preface, you want to know about the SRP, and this is what’s up.
First, instead of the ice cream social kickoff party, kids and teens that sign up during the first two weeks of the program (starting today, July 2) will receive a coupon for free ice cream at Maxwell’s, courtesy of the Friends of the Library!
To sign up, download the READsquared app or track your reading manually (and just tell us what you’re reading). Record every day that you read for at least 20 minutes in your account and earn points for every day you read! Level up every four days you read to earn a Brag Tag! Read for at least 40 days (20 for teens and adults) this summer to complete the program and earn a coupon for a FREE book at your school’s Scholastic Book Fair. This is open to students in Hamilton, Madison, and Brookfield. Use your points to purchase tickets to one of our Grand Prize Raffles, or you could win a participation prize!
More? Okay. Kids and teens that complete the program will also receive a free slice and drink at “Slices” (NY Pizzeria), ALSO courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Adults can sign up for the program and are eligible to win prizes, but they will NOT get a free ice cream at signup or pizza. Sorry, adults!
This is a back-to-basics program, with no events scheduled at this time. If we decide to hold an event, we will definitely let you know about it on social and antisocial media (like this newspaper!).
Thank you for reading, wear a mask, and wash your hands!
