The Return of SRP

When did it become summer? That was quick! Well, with that realization, I guess it’s time to talk about our annual Summer Reading Program here at the Hamilton Public Library! This year is expanding a bit from the previous year, when we were in the throes of a worldwide pandemic.

Starting Saturday, July 10, stop in for our Kickoff Celebration in the library from 9 am – 3 pm to register for our program and events! Kids and teens can take home a FREE book (provided by the Friends of the Library) AND a coupon for a FREE scoop of ice cream at Maxwell’s Chocolates & Ice Cream or Gilligan’s! There will also be crafts, games, and special raffles for everyone who signs up at the Kickoff. Winners of the Kickoff raffles will be drawn and notified on Monday, July 12th. If you don’t make it to sign up during the first week, don’t worry – you can sign up any time before the event ends on August 21!

Kids and adults will have bingo cards to fill out this year, instead of trying to keep track of the number of books/days read. Teens have a special set of scratch off tickets they earn by coming into the library and checking out books or attending programs.

For programs, each age range will have a specific day of the week that there will be events for them to make it easier for parents to remember when they need to come to the library. Some programs require registration – for them, there will be a signup sheet. We will keep the signup sheet at the circulation desk in case you don’t want to commit to a date that far in advance. However, sign up early to ensure a spot!

Just like regular library use, masks are required at all indoor programs for patrons above the age of four. Outdoors, vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks. This protocol is in place to follow the safety guidelines set in public schools. Thank you to all for continuing to mask in our building!

We are also partnering with Madison Central School to bring the students there a special SRP to be held at the Madison Lake Rotary Pavilion Tuesday evenings from 4-7pm. We’ll have snacks, games, and activities for each week. That one starts July 6th and runs for 5 week.

Thank you for reading, and see you in the library!
